Wonder Woman - The Hope of the DC Universe

What does Wonder Woman have in comparison to the other heroes of the DC Cinematic Universe? Hope. Hope through her story, and hope for a franchise that seemed to be diving into a dismal hole that the Marvel Cinematic Universe avoided. From Superman's Dad dying to Deadshot being the only character with depth in Suicide Squad - the superhero scene in this side of the world couldn't compare to the Avengers. At least there, we saw antibullying, diverse, humanistic heroes with humor and complexes we all can related to - whether you were a comic book geek or a newcomer. But all of that finally changed with the sword swinging, powerhouse amazon: Wonder Woman.

Why haven't we had any strong female heroes? For the longest time, many believed that there were some, such as Supergirl and Buffy, but nothing like this was expected. It's been a bleak world of women taking the back seat, featured in either second rate movies or as side characters to glorify the macho bravado of characters, like Batman and Wolverine. As many of those movies were fan favorites, the female demographics had been ignored. Yes, there were heroines on screen with their own features and series, but mostly they were highly sexualized and accepted the status quo as truth, rather than challenging the reality of misogyny. Women were almost never seen having conversations amongst other women, without the mention of men. The Bechdel test makes sure that this is now a standard in our movie theaters, and Wonder Woman passed it with flying colors! (See bechdeltest.com)

But to avoid the real spoilers, it's best to ask where this will lead the rest of the DC Cinematic Universe? With Batman VS Superman making a headway into the Justice League franchise, how will the rest of the superhero films outshine this Amazon Princess?
